About
I am a PhD student in Personal Health Informatics at Northeastern University's Khoury Data Visualization Lab, where I am co-advised by Dr. Melanie Tory and Dr. Matthew Goodwin. I am developing my research at the intersection of healthcare, data visualization, and human-computer interaction (HCI). I am especially interested in the design and application of health technologies for neurodivergent and surgical populations.
I am Chair and Clinical Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences at Northeastern University, where I also serve as a faculty member in the Physician Assistant Program. I bring over twenty years of clinical experience as a surgical PA to my teaching, having practiced across vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Drawing on that clinical foundation, my academic interests center on PA education, clinical skills training, surgical education, and interprofessional education. I teach the surgery course and basic surgical skills in the PA Program, and I have a particular passion for suturing instruction, including hands-on workshop presentations at national conferences.
Service: I currently serve on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of PA Education, where I co-host the JPAE Podcast. I serve as a Massachusetts Association of Physician Associates Delegate to the AAPA House of Delegates. I had the privilege of serving six years on the PAEA Exam Development Board as an item writer and content expert in General Surgery and Emergency Medicine.
Honors: I was honored to receive the 2022 PAEA Rising Star Award, recognizing emerging contributions to PA education and scholarship. I am a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Associates, and was the 2019 recipient of the PAEA Don Pedersen Grant as principal investigator on a multi-institution study on professionalism in PA education.
Across my clinical, educational, and research roles, I am driven by a shared purpose: to better understand and improve the systems, tools, and experiences that shape how people learn, practice medicine, and receive care. At the heart of this work is a belief that patients deserve to be active partners in their own care, and that the technologies and practices we design should reflect that.
